What Is Netflix Suspension Email Scam
People have been receiving emails informing them that their Netflix account is on held. The email reads:
Do You Know You Could Get Back Your Money If You Have Been Scammed? Great News! Click HERE to Get Started
Dear customer,
we have blocked access to your account due to problems with your payment method. You can no longer watch your favorite TV SHOWS and MOVIES through your account. Please confirm/update your payment details.
-Your friends on Netflix
But this is a scam email we have seen countless times, and we know how it works.
How It Works
The Netflix no reply email informs the reader that their account is on held, then an instruction on how to recover the account is provided. A malicious link is then given. Their aim is to pretend they want to help you to resolve the problem, but don’t be deceived; these people are scammers.
In the course of clicking the malicious link and inputting your personal information, you would input your credit card details into their system, handing them the information they need to steal money from your card. Doing this will be giving up your credit card information to thieves.
What To Do
When you receive such messages and want to be sure it is not scam, do the following:
- send the company an email to confirm the authenticity of the text
- if the company says the message is not from them, delete the message immediately
- do not, out of curiosity, click the link or call that number to see where it leads
Conclusion
Phishing scams are on the rise these days, and a lot of people have lost sensitive information to hackers
We have come across scams like this a lot. What you have to do firstly is not to click on links you do not understand or call strange numbers, and always be sure the source of the message is genuine before you engage.
Can’t wait for James Jernigan’s next video.
